Activities Summary

1) Meetings: Regular meetings are the route for making more formal decisions but a critical element of the BF is the ability for members to make decisions and take strategic action in between meeings to to maintain momentum.

2) Collaborative Research Actions: In order to address the Belmont Challenge and advance understanding in key areas related to it, a number of activities, called Collaborative Research Actions are being developed. These are high priority, coordinated research activities that are intended to improve the way funding agencies collaborate with each other and develop opportunities for research.

3) Activities in the broader Global Environmental Change Research Community: As the major funders of global change research globally, Belmont Forum and IGFA members provide the support for international project offices for global environmental change and regional research programs. As major funders, Belmont Forum and IGFA members frequently sponsor and host meetings of the global environmental change research programs (WCRP, IGBP, IHDP, DIVERSITAS, ESSP, START) and actively participate in and, in some cases, provide support for the activities of the regional global environmental change research programs (IAI, APN), ICSU, the ISSC, IPCC, CBD, and others.
